Tucked along Kampong Bahru, Hiyaki Yakitori Izakaya Bar nails that cozy izakaya vibe without trying too hard. Dim lighting, tight seating, and a buzzing energy that feels straight out of Tokyo with very traditional decors all around. It’s also really popular amongst those living around the area. The space leans intimate rather than spacious, so expect tables close together and a lively atmosphere once it fills up. There’s a nice mix of bar seating and small tables, making it great for casual dates or chill catch-ups. Music and chatter blend into that classic izakaya hum. Overall, it’s got that warm, slightly cramped, after-hours drinking den feel that works — not polished, but exactly the kind of place you settle into for a long evening. The Unagi Fried Rice is decent, goes well with white corn and also a couple of sides such as the chicken thigh. A pity we entered late otherwise the 1-1 beer promotion would be a good deal as well.

Really like the setting of the restaurant, feels like I am in Japan. Very cute place for group get togethers or to feel relax on a date. Food wise 4/5, Skewers are 3.8-4.1 for me. Some hits and misses. Most retained enough juice within, had that bbq char and flavor, but it isn't the best I had. *I usually would have 1-2 memorable skewers and would go back for it, but these did not quite capture my palate. 3.9/5 Garlic fried rice look pretty but wasnt that glistening flavorful kind I was hoping for, tasted a bit bland for me. 4.2/5 I did enjoy the grilled squid, tender yet chewy, subtle taste of grill and the clean sweetness is great after the oilier skewer sticks. Overall my friends enjoyed the food but I might not come so far just for this again.

Had a wonderful dinner here! Everything about the experience was perfect. Staff were so friendly and polite, food came quickly and at good timings, each dish was spectacular. Particularly, I would definitely recommend trying the grilled butter corn, the potato salad, the Wagyu beef cubes, unagi fried rice and the chicken with leek skewers. A definite recommend to try this place. 10/10 experience.
