Easy to grow and can thrive in the garden for many years. When not in bloom, peonies grow in neat mounds measuring 3 feet by 3 feet with lush foliage that remains green throughout the season. Excellent cut flowers that can last a week in vases. Peonies are long-lived perennials that are relatively low maintenance and pest free. Peonies do not transplant well, so pick their location carefully. They prefer full sun but may appreciate afternoon shade in hotter climates. Blooms may require staking as they tend to arch to the ground, especially after heavy rains. Makes a beautiful informal hedge or try using them to line a walkway or driveway.

Bleeding heart is a favorite shade perennial that reaches a size of 2 - 3 feet tall and wide. In spring, heart-shaped pink flowers dangle on arching stems, bringing early spring color to shady areas of the garden. This herbaceous perennials blooms for 4 - 6 weeks in late spring to early summer, then tends to decline and go dormant in the heat of summer. Plant this among other shade-loving perennials to fill in the space when these go dormant for the season.

In late spring, heart-shaped flowers form along arching stems. Try using the stems in fresh bouquets! They will last about 2 weeks in a vase. After blooming, dicentra tend to die back until the following year. Be sure to plant it near something that can fill in the gaps when dicentra goes dormant such as hosta, caladium, or hardy geranium. Awards Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit -- 1993 Planting Tips Plant in a location that is protected from high winds and early frosts. Propogate dicentra by digging up and dividing in spring or fall, but take care not to damage the fleshy roots! Dicentra will self-sow if allowed and create more dicentra! (Be aware and plan accordingly!)

Literally, a huge improvement over 'Annabelle'!Our goal in creating Incrediball® hydrangea was to develop a non-flopping version of 'Annabelle.' What we ultimately selected, though, was even better: a powerhouse of a plant that not only has strong, sturdy, supportive stems, but also extra large flowers. On mature plants, they can become as large as basketballs! Blooms age to a beautiful jade green through summer and fall. Don't let its good looks fool you, though - this North American native is super hardy and tough as nails. Soil Grows well in most soils; avoid wet and poorly drained sites. Mulch is recommended in the landscape. Pruning Blooms on new wood - cut back by about one-third its total height in early spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge on the stems. Smooth hydrangeas may be cut back harder, however, this prevents woody cells from developing, prohibiting the plant from achieving its maximum stem strength. Uses Versatile and showy, smooth hydrangeas offer dozens of landscape applications: foundation plantings, perennial gardens, hedges, cut flower gardens, naturalizing, pollinator and wildlife gardens. Growing Tips We recommend full sun for smooth hydrangeas in the cooler end of its hardiness range; afternoon shade is a good idea in warmer climates, however. The flower color of smooth hydrangeas is not influenced by soil chemistry. Makes an excellent cut flower, both cut and dried.

It reaches just 1-2.5' (.3-.7 m) tall and naturally grows as a tidy, rounded mound. Each flower emerges an almost white, blush pink before changing to creamy white, and is held up on a strong, supportive stem for a display that looks more like a bouquet of flowers than a landscape plant. Blooming begins in early summer and continues through frost, with new flowers appearing the whole time. Versatile and floriferous, it just might be the solution to your landscape problems. Awards Winner of the 2018 Direct Gardening Association Green Thumb award Growing Tips A minimum of six hours of bright sun is recommended for all smooth hydrangeas like Invincibelle Wee White. Sun ensures the strongest stems and the most blooms. In hot climates, afternoon shade is a good idea, but some sun is still imperative for best performance. Pruning is very simple for Invincibelle Wee White hydrangea: just cut the whole plant back by about one-third its total height each spring, just as the new growth begins to appear on the stems. This serves to preserve the woody base while encouraging new growth for maximum blooms. A 2-3" (5-7.6 cm) thick layer of shredded bark mulch is smart for all hydrangeas, which tend to have shallow roots. If desired, fertilize in early spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants, like a rose fertilizer.

It's a special day when you discover a plant that's as unique and beautiful as this one. Similar to Little Lime® hydrangea with its useful, compact stature and emerging lime-green blooms, but it differs as the flowers age to pink. New blooms emerge to give you a festive mix of pink, green, white, and Hawaiian Punch-red blooms all on the same plant. It's hard to describe, but the plants just make you feel happy. Soil Adaptable to most any soil except very wet or excessively alkaline soils. Pruning In late winter or early spring, cut back by about one-third its total height, just above a set of large buds. This ensures that the growth for the season will come vigorous buds lower on the plant and also serves to remove any remaining dried blooms. Alternatively, cut back in autumn once the plant has gone completely dormant. May be cut back harder if desired, though this tends to produce stems that are unable to achieve maximum stem strength the following season. Uses Specimen; mixed borders; mass plantings. Makes a good hedge or screen. Excellent for cut flowers, both fresh and dried. Growing Tips Panicle hydrangeas are the most sun tolerant hydrangeas and are also resistant to wilting. In cooler climates, full sun is recommended for best stem strength and flower set. Flower color is unaffected by soil chemistry. If flowers turn brown and dry instead of aging to pink or red, this indicates that the plant needs more water or that nighttime temperatures are too high for the transition to occur.
