Averra is building a portable soil diagnostics platform that delivers real-time, in-field insights to help farmers optimize inputs, improve soil health, and participate in emerging carbon markets.

We integrate engineered biosensors, microfluidics, and data analytics into a field-deployable system that measures bioavailable soil nutrients and carbon in real time.

What We Do 

Averra began with a simple question: why, in an era of advanced biotechnology and data systems, do farmers still have to wait weeks for soil data?

Through conversations with farmers, agronomists, and agricultural researchers, a pattern, the real problem emerged. Soil testing -- the foundation of decision-making in agriculture -- remains slow, expensive, and often inaccessible to small and medium-sized farms. Many growers rely on infrequent lab tests or intuition, leaving them without the real-time insight needed to respond to changing environmental conditions. At the same time, the global food system faces mounting pressure: degraded soils, rising input costs, and the growing need to verify sustainable practices.

We saw an opportunity to rethink this system entirely.

Where We Started

Averra was founded at the intersection of biology, engineering, and climate innovation. By leveraging engineered biosensors and integrating them into portable, field-ready devices, we are transforming soil from something that is periodically measured into something that can be continuously understood. Instead of sending samples away, farmers can access actionable insights directly in the field—enabling faster decisions, reduced input waste, and stronger, more resilient growing systems.

But our vision extends beyond efficiency. We believe that access to high-quality soil data should not be limited to large industrial operations. By making advanced diagnostics affordable, intuitive, and accessible, we aim to empower small and mid-scale farmers, support regenerative practices, and open the door to new economic opportunities such as regenerative markets.
