David has been a craftsman and builder for over four decades. He built his first farm table in 2010 for their home in Zionsville, Indiana. After adding a breakfast room to their home, they couldn’t find a hardwood table of the right size or quality to fit the space. So, David learned to design and build the table himself. This first heirloom piece was the unofficial founding of As We Gather.

Over the next decade, David became an accomplished craftsman. Moving to Cincinnati provided an opportunity to work in a custom cabinet shop, where he learned trade secrets, skills, and techniques. Two exceptional craftsmen became friends and mentors, further adding to his skill set. A dozen tables and benches followed—each one designed and built specifically for the space and function of its location. Charcuterie and cutting boards were introduced in 2015. The company, As We Gather, was officially launched in 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Our Story

Good things happen around the table. Starting and ending the day by sharing a meal builds depth in family relationships. Combining hospitality and generosity with neighbors, friends, and great food helps to build strong community.

Faith is foundational to our family. The ministry of Jesus was not about establishing a religion; it was about discovering that we are designed on purpose for a purpose. We have a place in His story that is much greater than the one we could write ourselves. His teachings begin by defining greatness through humbly serving the least of these. Many of the most teachable and touching moments in His ministry happened over meals. Creating spaces where community can be nurtured and relationships strengthened is the heart behind As We Gather.

Faith and Family

I grew up poor in a small farming community in Illinois, but I didn’t realize we were poor. Our family of seven always had everything we needed. My parents were incredibly generous at church and in the community, sharing their time, talents, and treasure. Since we didn’t have extra money to hire help, my dad figured things out himself—he was the original DIY guy, and I learned that from him. Our parents expected us to work hard from a very early age. My brother became an exceptional builder and project manager, making a distinguished career in the trades as a union carpenter. He taught me the importance of doing things with excellence the first time.

For Boards: Each board is sealed with a food-safe mineral oil and beeswax blend. Rinse it immediately after use, and never soak it in water. Embrace the occasional cheese knife cut; each scar marks a story and a moment when life became richer. The board’s character will come to reflect your family's character.

For Tables: Each table is sealed with a polyacrylic finish. Clean with mild soap and water, and dry immediately. Polish as needed with a furniture oil to maintain its finish.

Each board was handcrafted to serve as a centerpiece for building community, where you can gather to share great food and stories. The longer you linger together, the deeper your connections will grow. As Jesus said, “As often as you gather, remember what I have done for you – My grace is sufficient, you are never alone.” Let your board and table be a magnent for fostering both community and family.
