Question 1

How do I become a member?

Accepted Answer

Complete the expression of interest form provided. We'll then follow up with a membership application form. We will review applications to ensure prospective members understand the club's purpose and are willing to participate respectfully. Submitting an application doesn't guarantee acceptance.

Question 2

Do I need to be good at art to join?

Accepted Answer

Not at all! The Art Wall Club is about creativity and connection, not artistic talent. Whether you're an experienced artist or haven't picked up a pencil in years, you're welcome here.

Question 3

What kind of artwork can I send?

Accepted Answer

Anything creative that can be made on or with paper! Drawings, paintings, photography, collages, zines, poetry, short stories, paper crafts and more. We encourage you to experiment and try new things.

Question 4

How does the monthly exchange work?

Accepted Answer

Each month, you'll be matched with another member. You'll create a piece of art, write a handwritten letter and send both to our designated collection point. We'll collect and redistribute the submissions so you can receive artwork and a letter from your match.

Question 5

Why is there a membership fee?

Accepted Answer

Membership is J$2,500 per month. Your fee helps cover logistics, mail handling, club administration, other expenses and future growth.

Question 6

Is there a limit to the size of my artwork?

Accepted Answer

Your complete submission, including packaging, must weigh no more than 1 lb and be suitable for mailing.

Question 7

Will I be matched with the same person every month?

Accepted Answer

We'll aim to introduce you to different members over time, giving you opportunities to connect with new people and discover different creative styles and perspectives.

Question 8

Do I have to be outgoing to join?

Accepted Answer

Not at all! Whether you're outgoing, shy or somewhere in between, there's room for you here. You can connect at your own pace without the pressure of traditional social settings.

Question 9

Will my exchange partner know my home address?

Accepted Answer

No. Members send their submissions to The Art Wall Club's designated collection point. We'll handle the redistribution, so members don't need to exchange home addresses.

Question 10

Do I have to share personal information in my letters?

Accepted Answer

Only what you're comfortable sharing. Letters are an opportunity to introduce yourself and connect, but you should never feel pressured to disclose anything personal.

Question 11

Can I join if I live outside Jamaica?

Accepted Answer

We're starting in Jamaica, so our initial membership and mailing arrangements will focus on local exchanges. International membership may be considered as the club grows.

Question 12

What happens if I can't participate in a particular month?

Accepted Answer

Monthly participation is part of the membership commitment. If something comes up, contact us as early as possible. Ideally one month in advance. Our policy for missed exchanges will be communicated to members.

Question 13

Can I invite my friends to join?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! We love when members introduce others to the club. You can also benefit from our referral discount: J$500 off your next month's fee for each successful referral, up to the full cost of your monthly membership.

Question 14

What if I have more questions?
