What is Spectrum+?

Spectrum+ is a relationship and sexual health program that offers inclusive and comprehensive curriculum on 5 core topics:  
Sex, Sexuality, and Self Esteem 
Relationships, Communication, and Consent 
Anatomy and Physiology 
STIs, HIV, & AIDS 
Safer Sex Strategies

What is YELL?

YELL (Youth Empowerment Leadership & Life skills) is a substance abuse prevention program that addresses prescription drug, tobacco, and alcohol misuse among youth. It incorporates a harm reduction approach and teaches healthy decision making. The modules include:  
The Value of Good Health  
Decision Making for Good Health  
Risk Taking  
Substance Use 
The Media and Health  
Family Communication  
Healthy Relationships

What is ALLY?

Accepted Answer

ALLY (AZ Life Links for Youth) is a youth suicide prevention program that empowers youth to identify their sources of strength and equips them with the knowledge and coping skills to further promote resilience, healthy coping, and a sense of belonging. It is taught using the Sources of Strength curriculum and Gatekeeper (Question, Persuade, and Refer) training.

Question 5

Is early camp drop-off/late pick-up available?

Accepted Answer

Camp staff are available to check-in campers as early as 8:30am (one hour before programming starts). The Eon Youth Lounge is equipped with sofas, games, books, and simple crafts for participants during this time. Daily pick-up window is 4:30-5:00pm. Parents/guardians and registered young adults will receive contact information to communicate any late arrival and/or early departure with staff.

What happens if my child becomes upset or uncomfortable?

Accepted Answer

We understand that each participant comes to camp with their own unique lived experiences and perspectives, some of which can cause them to feel upset or uncomfortable with the content. We emphasize that it is okay to feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, as that can be a sign of growth, but that if, at any time, it comes to the point where they are experiencing emotional distress or overwhelming feelings, we encourage them to take care of their needs by taking time away from the teaching space or speaking with a staff member. Staff members will be available to offer support and will be proactive in checking in with participants over the course of camp.

Question 7

How will activities and discussions be made appropriate and safe for such a wide age range (12–24)?

Accepted Answer

Camp activities and discussions are designed with participants’ ages, developmental stages, and comfort levels in mind. Facilitators use age-appropriate language, establish clear group agreements, and create opportunities for participants to engage in ways that feel safe and respectful to them. YELL and Spectrum+ curricula will be separated by age groups to support meaningful participation and learning for everyone.

How are staff trained to respond to sensory overload or dysregulation?

Accepted Answer

The Spectrum+ team and other staff at the EON lounge have completed trainings such as the Mental Health First Aid from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing to be able to recognize signs in young people for when they may be feeling distressed or overwhelmed. The team is also trained in de-escalation tactics, and the space will have designated spaces to accommodate participants who may be feeling overwhelmed or dysregulated.

Will my child still be able to participate if they cannot attend the full day?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Enrolled participants are welcome to participate in any part of the program, even if they cannot attend the full day. If your child will be arriving late or leaving early, please let staff know ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly.

Question 10

What procedures are in place if my child has a medical emergency during camp?

Accepted Answer

The health and safety of our participants is our priority. If there is a medical emergency, staff will respond appropriately based on the situation and contact parents/guardians or emergency contacts as needed. If your child has any allergies, medical conditions, medication needs, or uses and EpiPen please include this information in the registration form.
