A Twenty-Five Year Dossier: MH’s Professional Evolution and Strategic Pivot into HBCU Philanthropy

For 25+ years I have been the strategic force, creative spark, and institutional architect in the background—bringing high-level concepts, transformational fundraising, and bold programs to life for other organizations, leaders, and ventures. My turning point was recognizing that the ultimate realization of my vision requires owning the seat at the head of the table. It was time to harness over a quarter-century of multi-disciplinary mastery, social impact design, and strategic oversight into my own venture. Hampton§Yates Venture Philanthropy Group isn't just a new enterprise; it is the culmination of my life’s work—a purpose-built vehicle to drive legacy, institutional growth, and economic empowerment on my own terms.

HYVPG is the culmination of every lesson, every strategic model, and every spark of creativity from the last 25 years. We aren't just funding initiatives—we are architecting sustainable, generational impact. This is where vision meets venture.

VISION § THE WHY

HYVPG § The HY Legacy Foundation

For a long time, I operated as a muse—the spark behind the strategy, the architect designing the blueprints for other leaders' success and other institutions' growth. I gave my best ideas, my deepest creative energy, and my strategic foresight to build their platforms then realized that the vision inside wasn't meant to be handed off—it was meant to be led BY ME.

Our goal: secure the financial future of HBCUs by implementing world-class stewardship programs and fostering enduring partnerships between those that define and support Black excellence.

Our venture philanthropy model emphasizes the modernization and acceleration of traditional fundraising models. We strategically transform the landscape of HBCU giving to ensure every gift achieves its maximum potential.

Our dedication to bridging the philanthropic divide for HBCUs centers on providing the strategic infrastructure, advocacy, and stewardship expertise necessary to transform institutional visions into sustainable realities.

MISSION § THE PURPOSE

Explore Our Executive Summary

We are a Venture Philanthropy company operating in three distinct silos: Philanthropy Consulting & Advancement Services, Community & Educational Development (Real Estate/Commercial), and Educational Technology & Managed Services. We function as “Advancement-as-a Service” to smaller HBCUs that lack the high-level infrastructure for major gift development and fund reconciliation. Our C&ED arm focuses on projects that enhance campus environments and local student housing—echoing the ‘economic engine’ driver in our model. Our ET&MS division gives us the ability to license proprietary reporting and stewardship software to universities and other organizational entities.

The HY Legacy Foundation (501c3) serves as the ‘Impact Vehicle’ and philanthropic heart of the company. Governed by an independent board of directors dedicated exclusively to the public good, it deploys strategic initiatives to secure the "economic lungs" of HBCUs through endowment growth and restricted fund management.
