What makes these eggs different from store-bought eggs?

Local eggs are typically fresher, often laid within a few days (or even same day). Store-bought eggs are typically 30 to 60 days old by the time they are purchased. While they can be sold up to 30 days after packing, they are often laid weeks before that.

Many customers who purchase local eggs notice richer yolk color and flavor due to the hens’ diet.

Where do the eggs come from?

These eggs come directly from our farm/household flock located right here in Rainier, Oregon, not a commercial facility.

Are these eggs organic?

“Organic” is a regulated, certified label overseen by the USDA. For eggs to be labeled organic, farms must meet strict requirements. Because of these requirements, not all small farms choose to pursue organic certification—it is costly, paperwork-heavy, and takes at least 3 years.

However:
- we do not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers
- we use natural soil-building practices like composting
- our hens are free range and fed high-quality, organic feed

How are the chickens raised?

Our chickens are raised in a small flock with access to the outdoors, fresh air, and clean water. They are fed a specially formulated diet supplemented with natural foods like fruits, vegetables, protein, and insects.

Are hormones or antibiotics used?

Accepted Answer

Hormones are not permitted in egg-laying chickens in the U.S.

Antibiotics are only used when medically necessary under the direction of a veterinarian. We’ve been fortunate to have never needed veterinary treatment for our flock.

Our eggs are sold within days of being laid—much fresher than grocery store eggs, which can be weeks old.

Per Oregon Health Authority: To prevent illness from bacteria: keep eggs refrigerated at a temperature of 40° F or below, cook eggs until yolks are firm, and cook foods containing eggs thoroughly.
