Public transportation on strike on Wednesday, but exams and classes will go ahead
All public transport in the Netherlands will be suspended until 8 a.m. on Wednesday due to a nationwide strike. Anyone who needs to be at the university early for appointments, examinations or lectures will have to arrange alternative transport themselves.

Universities are for education, but also for sport and culture
Universities often contribute financially to student sports and cultural activities, but strictly speaking they are not allowed to do so under current funding rules. The Dutch government now wants to make such support permanently permissible. Public funding is, in principle, intended only for education and research. The Ministry of Education had planned to enforce this rule more strictly, putting subsidies such as the University of Groningen’s support for the ACLO student sports organisation at risk. The same applied to student cultural organisations such as USVA and university newspapers like UKrant. The proposal triggered a wave of protest. Former education minister Eppo Bruins eventually suspended the stricter interpretation of the rules. […]
