What documents do I need to bring?

Please bring the following:
- A government ID (e.g., passport or driving licence)
- Proof of address
- Original documents and copies of those you want to get certified or attested

If a Peace Commissioner needs to witness your signature, do not sign the document beforehand. You must sign it in front of the Peace Commissioner and date it.

According to the Statutory Declarations Act, 1938, you must sign the statutory declaration in the presence of the person attesting it. The attester must then sign and date it as well.

Question 2

Are there any document limitations? (No more than 12 signatures per appointment)

Accepted Answer

Yes, there are limitations. Shashank can only verify or certify up to 12 pages or signatures per appointment. If you need more than 12, please book another slot. Also, book a separate appointment for each applicant.

For naturalisation, he can help with the following documents:
- True colour copy of the biometric page(s) of your current passport (as of 20th April 2023)
- Passport Certification Form: https://www.irishimmigration.ie/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/citizenship/
- True copy of Birth Certificate
- True copy of Marriage Certificate (for applications based on Irish spouse or civil partner)
- Statutory Declaration (for applications based on Irish spouse or civil partner)

Please note, that documents not specified on the application form, as well as full passports, will not be certified

Can a Peace Commissioner sign affidavits? (Note: Peace Commissioners are not Commissioners of Oaths)

Accepted Answer

No, Peace Commissioners cannot sign or authenticate affidavits.

An affidavit is a sworn written statement from a witness in a case, prepared by a solicitor or barrister. When ready, the witness must go to a Commissioner for Oaths or a practising solicitor to verify the affidavit.

Question 4

Do Peace Commissioners need a stamp, and do you have one?

A stamp is not required according to the Minister for Justice https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/question/2017-03-07/106/#pq-answers-106 but in practice, agencies do often reject stamp-less documents. When booking a Peace Commissioner is it advisable to ask if they have a stamp.

Are there any charges for these services?

Peace Commissioners are honorary appointments and there is no remuneration or financial compensation by way of fees or expenses for their services. All Peace Commissioner services stated in Q.4/above are free to avail.
