How do I know if my insurance covers?

Call the number on the back of your insurance card, and ask them the following questions:
1) Are GLP-1s covered in my plan? Are they in my formulary?
- GLP coverage varies plan to plan. Your formulary is the list of medications your insurance covers. Also, check your plans exemptions; mine has an obesity exemption.

2) What are the clinical criteria? 
- You need to know what the criteria are for coverage; typically, this is a certain BMI, Glucose, or A1c. 
- Note that certain medications, including Ozempic and Mounjaro, are only FDA-approved for Type 2 Diabetes, and insurance will likely not cover them for "off-label" use.

3) What is the cost?
- Note the medications costs, keeping in mind your copays and deductible, if applicable.

Question 2

What supplements should I take?

Please talk to your provider prior to starting ANY vitamin or supplement, and remember that content creators are heavily incentivized to recommend certain brands.

That being said, my current regimen (which you can get from my showcase) are: 
- Mary Ruth's Liquid Morning Multivitamin + Hair Growth
- Mary Ruth's Vegan Liquid Iron
- Mag07 (as needed) for constipation

Question 3

What about hair loss?

Telogen effluvium is your body's response to any kind of stressor, including weight loss. Essentially, your body will move your hair growth phase into the resting phase. This causes your hair to shed,  as your body will no longer need that hair, and this opens the follicle for future growth.

For most people, this is temporary, and the hair grows back. There are a few things you can do to help:
1) ensure you're getting adequate protein, as hair is 90% protein.
2) ensure you're getting adequate nutrition in general. Make sure you're eating, even if you're not hungry.

At the end of the day, there are medications and things that can be helpful... but all of these require a medical professional! Please go to your doctor and/or dermatologist if this is causing significant distress.

What about my cycles?

I cannot stress this enough: if you're having issues and/or disruptions in your normal menstrual cycle, PLEASE go to your doctor and/or OBGYN for proper help. While weight loss can cause temporary changes in your cycle, only a medical professional will be able to help!

How do I know what my macros are?

There are two different ways to identify this:
1) Work with a Registered Dietician; I have found mine to be such a wealth of knowledge and a huge help during my GLP journey.
2) Go to TDEECalculator.net and enter your information for an overview of your personal macros.

Question 6

How can I break a stall?

Accepted Answer

Weight loss is often not linear; it is SUPER common to have daily fluctuations. A stall is classified as 6-8 weeks with NO movement on the scale or in measurements. This is where photos and measurements can be SO helpful!

If you're experiencing a stall, you may also need to:
1) increase your dose
2) adjust your macros, or
3) SEE YOUR PRESCRIBER :)

Question 7

Are other peptides helpful?

Accepted Answer

YES.

- B12/MIC has benefits for liver function and general energy.
- NAD+ is amazing for its anti-aging benefits and assistance with the body's mitochondria (literally the energy within the cells.)

Both B12/MIC and NAD+ can be prescribed by your Friday's provider, either in addition to your GLP-1 or as a standalone.

I have also previously used Sermorelin, which helps with sleep & recovery as well as muscle and bone loss.

Not all peptides are right for everyone; when in doubt, ask your prescriber!
