Sam Gardner

Sam Gardner is a care-experienced speaker, primary school teacher, author of The Knock on the Door, and creator of Lessons From the Care System — a platform dedicated to helping professionals understand the inner world of children in care. Growing up within the care system, Sam experienced multiple placement moves, school transitions, and the long-term impact of instability. Today, he brings that lived experience into professional spaces, translating behaviour through a trauma-informed lens and helping adults see what children are often unable to say. His work bridges two worlds: the child who survived the system, and the educator who now works within it. Sam’s workshops focus on: • Looking beneath behaviour • Creating genuine belonging • Understanding placement instability and transitions • Turning insight into practical, relational strategies His message is simple but powerful: We have enormous power to either enable or disable a child’s future.
