What is Inner West Youth (IWY)?

We are a Christian youth group and part of the Footscray Church of Christ. We run events for high school aged youth most Fridays during the school term, alternating between 'Energise' and 'Encounter' nights. 
Energise nights are normally activity based nights (e.g. roller skating or a movie night) focusing on having fun and building community. 
Encounter nights are based around bible studies, focusing on building a strong foundation of faith.

Who can come along?

Anyone who is in high school! Please just make sure that you have filled out a registration form before coming along.

If you are over 18 (and are no longer in high school), then IWY may not be the space for you. If you are interested in a young adults group (ages 18-35), please email fcoc.community@gmail.com

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely, friends are welcome! Please just make sure that they have filled out a visitor registration form before coming along.

Question 4

Do I have to be Christian to come?

Accepted Answer

Not at all! While IWY is a Christian space, all people are welcome to come along and be part of our youth group.

Question 5

Do I have to pay anything?

Accepted Answer

For the majority of our youth nights, there is no cost at all.

Very occasionally, for nights such as roller skating, there is a small fee to help cover running costs. This will be indicated on the weekly announcement if applicable. However, if you are unable to pay (or simply forget), the church will be more than happy to pay for you. We never want money to be a barrier to anyone coming along to youth group.

Do I need to register?

Yes, everyone who comes along to youth group needs to register. This is so that we know who to contact just incase anything happens, and so that we know about any allergies or other important information.

If you're coming along for the first time and don't want to fill out a whole form, you can fill out visitor registration form. This collects less information than the standard form, but is only valid for 2 youth nights, after which you will need to fill out a standard form to keep attending.

Our standard form is valid for 12 months. Both forms are available on our linktree.

Question 7

Do parents/guardians need to sign kids in and out?

Yes, parents or guardians need to sign kids in and out, via the QR code in the church foyer. This is to ensure everyone gets home safe and to meet Childsafe requirements. 
This can be done by any adult indicated on your registration form.

Question 8

Who leads youth group?

Accepted Answer

Inner West Youth is run by a small team of volunteer leaders who are passionate about creating a fun and safe environment for teenagers to grow in their faith and friendships.

All our staff and volunteers (across all areas of the Church) are required to hold a Working With Children Check and complete Safe Church training. This involves training around caring for children and vulnerable people, as well as a screening check.
