Eliza Bordeaux (1992) is a fine art - documentary photographer. She uses the medium of photography in an investigative and playful way to gain greater insight into the social significance of cultural phenomena. By including both facts and people’s personal perceptions in the process, she reveals the influence that wider socio-economic choices (often imposed from above) can have on personal and private life. She shares her discoveries via experimental photographic works steeped in symbolism. Bordeaux has Dutch, Indonesian and Moluccan roots. This specific mix carries complex narratives which brought her into a concentrated visual research about the Dutch colonial domination in Indonesia, the associated perceptions and imagery, and the continuing influence of this episode in the Netherlands.
