What is SAC?

Strength and Conditioning. Essentially it is structured workouts to become a better athlete. Speed training, vertical training, agility training, weight training, things of that nature. We will work with all high school female athletes during these sessions. You must register and pay.

What is SSI?

Accepted Answer

Sports Specific Instruction. This is where we will train specifically for Volleyball. Serving, passing, hitting, defense, serve receive, blocking, etc. If you are a dual or tri-sport athlete, you will have the opportunity to attend multiple SSI sessions throughout the week, however, athletes are limited to only 90 minutes of SSI per day, per the UIL. There is no charge or formal registration.

Is SSI included in the cost of SAC?

SSI is no charge.

Question 4

Is SAC and/or SSI mandatory?

Accepted Answer

They are strongly recommended. This is a great introduction into high school athletics, and to have an idea of what you will be walking into come tryouts. It is okay to miss a few sessions for appointments, vacations, etc. Everything beginning August 1st is mandatory.

Is it okay to miss some SAC and/or SSI sessions if we have a trip planned?

Will missing SAC and SSI affect my ability to make a team in the fall?

Accepted Answer

No. Although it will give coaches an opportunity to see you before tryouts, it is in no way a formal evaluation. However, please keep in mind the impression that you are giving by skipping summer workouts for an illegitimate reason.

Question 7

Do I automatically make the team if I played on my middle school team or play club?

Accepted Answer

No you do not. Each position is earned yearly. Nothing is guaranteed. Athletes can be cut, or placed on a lower or higher level team than previous years.

Question 8

If I am on the top team at my club, does that guarantee that I will be on Varsity?

Accepted Answer

No. Although it is great that you have accomplished something so great with your club, unfortunately it will not be considered when evaluating potential Wildcat team placements. The needs of a club team are very different from those of a high school team, and the process of selection for each is incomparable.

Do you hold early or late tryouts?

Accepted Answer

No. Due to the intensity of our schedule and regulations set by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), we do not offer early tryouts. Players may inquire about a late tryout; however, late tryouts are not guaranteed. We do not hold roster spots, and any late tryout is subject to availability. Scheduling is determined carefully to ensure it does not interfere with team practices or coaches' personal and professional commitments.

Do you make cuts?

Unfortunately, we can only keep a certain number of girls on each team, so we do usually have to make cuts, including at the junior varsity and varsity levels. The number of cuts varies year to year, depending on how many we have trying out, and the needs of the program for that particular season.

Question 11

What does the practice/game schedule for volleyball look likе?

We have matches on Tuesdays and Fridays. Plan to practice every day (except Sundays) there is not a game. This includes holidays. 
Freshmen typically practice before school (6 AM) on Mon/Thurs, and after school on Wednesdays (until 4:30 PM).
All Junior Varsity & Varsity practices will be held after school.

Players will not be excused from practices for routine appointments or vacations.

Question 12

Can you play multiple sports?

We encourage our athletes to play as many sports as they want. As soon as volleyball season is over, there is a smooth transition into whatever the athlete's next sport is. If they do not play another sport, then they stay in volleyball off-season for the remainder of the year and are highly encouraged to participate in club volleyball to excel in the game.
