Class Agreements Collection

At the beginning of each semester, I create classroom agreements with my students. I ask 4 questions:
1. What do you need from me to be successful in this class?
2. What do you need from each other to be successful in this class?
3. What do you think I need from you?
4. How do we want to handle folks who don't respect our agreements?
We discuss these 4 questions and come up with a handful of agreements that everyone supports, then I welcome everyone to sign it as a class contract. Throughout the semester, I remind students of the their agreements and it has become a great tool if issues arise throughout the semester. The attachment is a sampling of Class Agreements I've created over the years with my students. You'll see some where students had to sign via google document because I taught several online acting classes.

Audition Protocols Folder

In response to the shifting environment around consent and touch on Chabot's campus, we created and implemented these protocols for the Theater Arts Department. These protocols are a preemptive measure to make sure all students understood the rehearsal process and are all well informed.

Plaza Suite Art Display

I collaborated with the Art Department for this ongoing project. Bonnie Stipe's students studied the setting of our Fall 2024 play, Plaza Suite, and then they drew a collection of pieces that fit together in this art display. We kept the display in the theater's lobby for the run of the show. This was a wonderful learning tool for both the Art and Theater Departments at Chabot.

This is a copy of the full production. Recognizing the community's concerns about attending live events during the pandemic, we collaborated with Chabot TV to bring our performances to audiences through live streaming. This allowed those who were still cautious about attending indoor gatherings to enjoy our productions safely from their homes.

Suddenly Seymour Remix

I wrote and directed this comedy sketch that was performed at a variety show in Los Angeles. It is a satirical remix of a scene from Little Shop of Horrors. It takes aim at the male gaze, turning the lens on the objectifying way women are viewed. By reimagining the song with a contemporary twist, the remix uses humor to expose the absurdity of the male gaze and the pressure to conform to idealized standards of beauty. The video I posted is just one verse from the sketch which was a scene and a song.

When I was an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, I created this 47 second piece for an Art Gallery display on campus. This piece was looped for an ongoing visual feed. It's a performance piece using visuals and sound to comment on identity, race, and societal perceptions.

Safe Space vs Brave Space

I collaborated with the head of the San Francisco Semester program at ACT-SF, Peter Kuo, to create this informative video. We take about 5 minutes to educate students on how to tell difference between pain and trauma. I now use this video in all of my schools. I assign it at the beginning of the semester to help build language that can be used to discuss any challenges that may arise during the semester.
