CAPTAIN

Efren is a tireless dreamer, an intrepid traveler. He was a sailor all his life and a captain of merchant ships. For decades, the sea and the ports of five continents were his home. Today, Efren has been forced to dock permanently in a Alzheimer’s residence. Captain tells the story of a father-daughter reunion in an attempt to outrun time and embark on one last adventure together. Through the making of a film in which they revisit Efren’s memories using play, sensory stimulation and reenactment, they reframe the disease, heal old wounds, reveal long-held family secrets and, little by little and to everyone’s surprise, transform his present, bringing life back to his once-absent gaze.
