Question 1

What do my IELTS scores mean?

Accepted Answer

Results for the IELTS test are given on a 9-band scale. They are designed to be easy and simple to understand. The results are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 to 9, with 1 being the lowest and 9 indicating the highest level of English language proficiency.

You will receive a band score for each section of the test—Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. These individual scores, which are equally weighted, are then averaged and rounded to the nearest half band, to produce an overall band score.

The same scoring system is used for all versions of the IELTS test.

Question 2

Get your IELTS results online

Accepted Answer

You will be able to view your IELTS results online for 28 days. However, this should not be used as an official confirmation of your performance.

You can access your IELTS results via your IDP account. You will need your passport or ID number (the same number you used when you registered for the test) to access your results online. Contact your test centre if you have any queries or issues.

Question 3

What is a Test Report Form (TRF)?

Accepted Answer

A copy of your IELTS score is on your Test Report Form or TRF. You will receive only one copy of your IELTS Test Report Form, which is valid for two years.

Question 4

What is an e-TRF?

Accepted Answer

An IELTS e-TRF is a digital version of the IELTS Test Report Form. It's the same IELTS TRF you know, delivered digitally. IELTS e-TRFs are now available for test takers who sit the IELTS on Computer test at eligible test centres.

Question 5

How to download your e-TRF?

Accepted Answer

Download your e-TRF

Question 6

Additional Test Report Form (ATRF)

Accepted Answer

Up to five copies of your TRF will be posted electronically to the relevant organisations you have listed on your IELTS application form for free. Further requests can be made but there may be additional administrative charges. Contact your test centre to make this request.

To pick up your TRF from the test Centre, you must bring with you the same form of identification that you used to register for the test. Keep in mind that your test centre is not permitted to send your test results via email, phone, or fax.

Question 7

Re-mark your IELTS test

Accepted Answer

You can ask for a review of your score(s) if you are not satisfied with your results through a process known as Enquiry on Results (EOR).

Question 8

What happens during the EOR (Enquiry on Results) review process?

Accepted Answer

Senior examiners/markers, who are not aware of the original marks awarded for each test section (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking), re-mark the test papers.

After receiving notice of the remark result, your test centre issues a new Test Report Form (TRF) if the score has changed.

Depending on a number of factors, such as the number of sections requested for a remark, the results of your EOR will be available in 2–21 days. Please get in touch with your test centre or IELTS Partner if you have not received a response after 21 days.

You must pay an Enquiry on Results fee to get your IELTS test remarked. If your band score changes, the fee will be fully refundable.

Question 9

Who accepts IELTS?

Accepted Answer

More than 12,500 organisations accept IELTS across 150 countries. Find out who accepts IELTS and what band score you need to get there.

Question 10

What is difference between an IELTS test and an IELTS for UKVI test?

Accepted Answer

The IELTS for UKVI tests are taken at a UKVI approved test centre and must meet the administrative requirements outlined by the UK Home Office. To show that the test was taken in a UKVI approved test centre, the Test Report Form (TRF) will look slightly different. Nevertheless, the test format of IELTS for UKVI is the same as the other IELTS tests: content, format, scoring and level of difficulty.

Question 11

Who needs IELTS for UKVI

Accepted Answer

IELTS for UKVI is an approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) for visa applications to the UK. You need a valid English Language test for UK Visa score to study, work or migrate to the UK.

Question 12

Can I do all parts of the test on the same day?

Accepted Answer

The Listening, Reading, and Writing parts of the test are completed immediately after each other on the same day.

The Speaking test will be taken on the same day, either before, or after the other three parts of the test.

Question 13

In the Listening test, can I get a second chance to hear the recording if I don't hear it the first time?

Accepted Answer

In the IELTS Listening test, the recording is played once only. It is important to concentrate from the beginning until the end for the whole 30 minutes.

Question 14

Can I listen to the recording twice in my Listening test?

Accepted Answer
