Connect with your visitors using Messaging

Let visitors message you directly from your Linktree, and manage conversations, FAQs, paid files and more from your Messaging inbox.

Messaging gives your visitors a way to reach you directly from your Linktree, helping you build ongoing relationships with your audience beyond likes and comments.

Your Messaging inbox brings conversations together in one place, with tools to help you prioritize important messages, respond to repeated questions more efficiently, share content, and learn more about the people you're talking to.

Where to find Messaging

You can find Messaging in the left navigation of your Linktree Admin.

  1. Log in to your Linktree Admin.

  2. Select Messaging from the left navigation.

  3. Your Messaging inbox will open.

From here, you can read and reply to conversations, manage your inbox, and configure your Messaging experience.

Manage your Messaging inbox

Your Messaging inbox brings your conversations with visitors together in one place.

From your inbox, you can:

  • Read and reply to individual conversations.

  • Use Spotlight to find important messages.

  • Use Stacks to respond to similar messages more efficiently.

  • Send links and files directly in a conversation.

  • Send paid files for visitors to purchase.

  • View Audience Context to learn more about the person you're speaking with.

  • Customize your Welcome Message and FAQs.

  • Block or report visitors when needed.

Find important conversations with Spotlight

Spotlight helps important conversations stand out in your inbox, such as potential brand opportunities and collaboration requests.

You'll find Spotlight within the All view of your inbox. When Linktree identifies a message that may be important, it'll appear in Spotlight so it's easier to find among your other conversations.

Select a Spotlight message to open the conversation and respond as usual.

📝 Note: If you find that a message isn't relevant for Spotlight, open the conversation and select the ••• menu in the top-right corner. Select Remove from Spotlight, then choose why you'd like it removed.

Respond to similar messages with Stacks

Stacks bring similar messages together so you can respond to the same question once instead of replying to every conversation individually.

For example, if several visitors ask whether you ship internationally, those messages will be grouped into one Stack. You can write one response and send it across those conversations, saving you time while keeping each visitor's conversation separate.

To reply to a Stack:

  1. Open Messaging.

  2. Select Stacks.

  3. Open a Stack to review the messages that have been grouped together.

  4. Remove any messages that don't fit, if needed.

  5. Write your response.

  6. Send your reply.

Each visitor receives your response in their own individual conversation.

💡 Tip: Review the messages in a Stack before replying to make sure your response is relevant to everyone included.

Customize your Welcome Message and FAQs

You can customize what visitors see when they start a conversation with you from the Configure section of Messaging.

Welcome Message

Your Welcome Message is the first message automatically sent to visitors when they start a conversation with you.

We'll set up a Welcome Message for you by default, so you don't need to start from scratch. You can personalize it to sound more like you or include information that's useful to your visitors.

To customize your Welcome Message:

  1. Open Messaging.

  2. Select Configure.

  3. Select Welcome Message + FAQs.

  4. Edit your Welcome Message.

  5. Save your changes.

You could use your Welcome Message to let visitors know what they can message you about, share useful information, or simply invite them to say hello.

FAQs

You can also add up to 3 FAQs to help visitors get answers to common questions.

FAQs are useful for questions you receive regularly, such as:

  • "Do you ship internationally?"

  • "How can I book with you?"

  • "Are you available for collaborations?"

For each FAQ, you can add a question and answer. You can also attach a link from your Linktree to the answer when there's somewhere useful you'd like to direct visitors.

To add or update your FAQs:

  1. Open Messaging.

  2. Select Configure.

  3. Select Welcome Message + FAQs.

  4. Add or edit up to 3 FAQs.

  5. Add a Linktree link to an FAQ answer, if you'd like.

  6. Save your changes.

💡 Tip: Use FAQs for the questions you find yourself answering most often. You can update them anytime as the types of messages you receive change.

Add a Message Me link to your YouTube videos

If you have a YouTube channel, you can connect it to Linktree and automatically add a Message Me link to your video descriptions.

Once connected, Linktree will add your Messaging link to the descriptions of your existing YouTube videos. The link will also be added automatically to the description of new videos you upload, giving viewers an easy way to message you on Linktree.

To set it up:

  1. Open Messaging.

  2. Go to Configure.

  3. Select the option to add your Message Me link to YouTube.

  4. Connect your YouTube channel.

  5. Customize the message and where the link appears in your video descriptions.

  6. Confirm your changes.

Once activated, your Message Me link will be added across your YouTube video descriptions automatically.

Make changes or remove the link

You can return to your YouTube Message Me settings at any time to update how the link appears.

If you no longer want your Messaging link in your YouTube descriptions, select Remove. This removes the link from your existing videos and stops it from being added to new uploads.

💡 Tip: Adding your Message Me link to YouTube gives viewers a direct way to continue the conversation with you after watching your content.

Send links and files

You can share content directly within a conversation.

Select the + icon next to the message composer to attach something that's already on your Linktree or upload a file from your device.

Share something from your Linktree

You can send visitors something that's already on your Linktree directly within the conversation.

To share something from your Linktree:

  1. Open a conversation.

  2. Select the + icon.

  3. Choose something from your Linktree.

  4. Select what you'd like to share.

  5. Send your message.

This can be useful when someone asks about a product, booking, event, piece of content, or anything else that's already available on your Linktree.

Upload a file

You can also upload files directly from your device, including things like PDFs, images, videos, GIFs, voice notes, and other files.

To upload a file:

  1. Open a conversation.

  2. Select the + icon.

  3. Choose the option to upload a file.

  4. Select the file you'd like to send.

  5. Send your message.

Charge visitors to view a file

You can also add a price to a file you send, so the visitor needs to pay before they can view it.

To send a paid file:

  1. Open a conversation.

  2. Select the $ icon next to the + icon.

  3. Add a title for the item.

  4. Set the price you'd like to charge.

    • 📝 Note: You can add a price to files you upload, but not to links or content that's already on your Linktree.

  5. Attach the file you want to send.

  6. Send it to the visitor.

The visitor will be prompted to complete payment before they can view the file.

📝 Note: You'll need to be eligible for Stripe and have Stripe set up on your Linktree to receive payments for paid files.

Learn more about visitors with Audience Context

Audience Context gives you more information about the person you're speaking with, helping you understand who they are before you respond.

To view Audience Context:

  1. Open a conversation.

  2. Select the visitor's name at the top of the conversation.

  3. View the available information about that visitor.

Depending on the visitor and their activity with your Linktree, you may see information such as whether they're a customer, a summary of their activity with you, where they came from before messaging you, their location, previous purchases or bookings, and their spending history with you.

📝 Note: The information available can vary between visitors, so you may see more context for some people than others.

Turn Messaging off

You can turn Messaging off at any time if you don't want visitors to message you.

To turn Messaging off:

  1. Open Messaging.

  2. Select Configure.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Configure screen.

  4. Turn the Messaging toggle off.

When Messaging is turned off, visitors won't be able to start new conversations with you.

Your existing conversations will remain in your inbox, but you won't be able to reply to them while Messaging is turned off. Turn Messaging back on when you're ready to continue responding.

Message notifications

We'll notify you when you receive new messages so you don't need to keep your inbox open.

Depending on your device and notification settings, you may receive Messaging notifications through Linktree, email, or push notifications in the Linktree app.

Visitors can also be notified when you reply so they can return to the conversation.

Block or report a visitor

If you don't want someone to continue messaging you, you can block them from their conversation.

You can also report visitors that you believe are spam, abusive, or otherwise break Linktree's rules.

To block or report someone:

  1. Open the conversation.

  2. Select the ••• menu.

  3. Select Block or Report.

  4. Follow the prompts to confirm.

📝 Note: Blocking and reporting are different. Blocking prevents the visitor from continuing to message you, while reporting sends the content to Linktree for review.
