Tax on Linktree plans in the U.S. and Canada

Learn why sales tax is added to Linktree plans for users in the U.S. and Canada, based on local tax laws and your billing address.

If you're located in the United States or Canada, your Linktree plan price will show applicable taxes added at checkout. These may include:

  • U.S.: Sales tax

  • Canada: GST/HST, QST, and PST

📝 Note: If you're outside the U.S. or Canada, this change doesn't affect you.

Why is tax added?

Even though Linktree Pty Ltd is an Australian entity, we’re required to collect taxes in certain U.S. states and Canadian provinces where digital services are taxed. This helps us stay compliant with local tax laws.

When will the change take effect?

We’re introducing tax-exclusive pricing in stages. Here’s what to expect:

New subscriptions

  • U.S.: New plans will continue to be tax-exclusive.

  • Canada: From December 1, 2025, new plans will move to tax-exclusive pricing.

Existing subscriptions

  • Monthly plans in the U.S. and Canada:
If your subscription was set up as tax-inclusive, it will switch to tax-exclusive on December 1, 2025.

  • Annual U.S. plans:
These will become tax-exclusive at renewal from December 1, 2025.

📝 Note: Once your plan switches to tax-exclusive, your invoice will show tax as a separate line.

Will this affect what I pay?

Possibly. Your plan price stays the same, but tax will be added based on your location. That means your total charge may be higher than before, depending on your local tax rate.

How tax is calculated

We calculate tax based on your billing address, card country, or sign-up country. If tax applies in your area, it will be added at checkout.

📝 Note: If your location is tax-exempt, you won’t be charged tax.

Is this mandatory?

Only if your region requires it. If your area doesn’t charge tax on Linktree’s service, or if you qualify for an exemption, no tax will be added.

Will invoices and receipts change?

Yes. If you're in the U.S. or Canada, your invoice or receipt will now show tax as a separate line item.

What about users outside the U.S. or Canada?

This change only applies to the U.S. and Canada. In other countries, VAT or GST will still be included in your plan price where required.

What happens with renewals?

If your plan renews after the change takes effect, tax will be added based on your location. Existing subscriptions may be prorated or continue under the old pricing until they renew.

Will this affect discounts or add-ons?

Nope. Any discounts or add-ons on your account won’t change. This update only affects how tax is displayed and applied.

Do I need to do anything?

No. You’ll see taxes added at checkout based on your region.

💡 Tip: If you think you’re tax-exempt (for example, a nonprofit or GST-registered business in Canada), you can share your documentation with our support team for review.
