Meet Beaux, a singer, songwriter letting TikTok guide his social strategy

It’s no secret algorithms are the biggest gatekeepers between creators’ content and their followers. But how can creators work around algorithms and keep their communities engaged and up to date on their latest projects?

Nearly 75% of creators want to diversify what they create but feel pressure to keep making what is rewarded by the algorithm. As part of this year’s Creator Report, we sat down with UK based singer and songwriter Beaux to learn about his upcoming projects, how he connects with his community and how he tackles the algorithm.

“I know there are people who are making music specifically for how it will perform [within the algorithm], … but I want to make the music that I want to make and then find ways to make it work on social media,” said Beaux.

The 24-year-old Surrey singer shared with us how TikTok drives the way he thinks about content across all channels. “It’d be cool to make separate content for every platform, but it’s too much. I post everything onto TikTok and if it does well, then I’ll put it on reels and so on,” he said.

We know building community is a huge part of music and Beaux is no stranger to welcoming his fans with open arms. After debating whether or not to create a Discord for his fans, he did so and has around 250 engaged listeners he chats with.

In fact, when he premiered one of his singles on Radio One and the host was reading comments, “I recognized some names from people who are on my Discord… I was just like, oh man, people are actually excited for the song. It was cool.”

He thinks of his Discord community as a way to make deeper connections with his fans. “Everyone has a common interest of loving music, so we talk about gigs, other music we like and your usual day-to-day conversation.”
